Daredevil Evel Knievel Dead at 69 »
Didn’t we all want to be a little bit like Evel Knieval at some point in our youth? I know I did. Rest in peace.

How Many HTML Elements Can You Name in 5 Minutes? »
A fun little quiz which I actually found to be slightly harder than I expected. Maybe it was the pressure of the clock ticking or that I kept wanting to use Textile or Textpattern code because I’ve been working on the site so much. (via: Kottke)

I’ll be speaking at Ohio Dominican University for the Family Business Center on December 6, 2007:
Unraveling the Web
In this topical presentation, learn user-friendly design approaches, whether a content management system, a custom application or open source solution is more advantageous for your family business. Learn search engine optimization tips and why they matter. Understand web statistics—what to look for and what they mean. Also learn how to tie your website into lead generating marketing campaigns.
This is going to be a very cursory overview of these topics without getting too in-depth or technical, geared more towards business owners who aren’t involved in the actual design or development of their sites.
A Brief Message: Notify the Next of Kindle »
Chipp Kidd nicely sums up the iPod to Kindle comparison:
The reason the iPod took off is that music was never meant to be a “thing” in the first place. It was born as pure sound, and pure sound is what it has returned to. But books were always physical objects, and the printed book as a piece of technology has yet to be improved upon. And won’t.

Stephen King Talks (Some) Politics »
Time interviews Stephen King about his latest movie, The Mist, and King takes the opportunity to comment on politics, fame and culture:
But at the same time, it’s time for somebody to discuss the difference between real news and fake news.
My favorite quote from the interview has to be this one though:
“This is not a bad life.” They give you the keys to the playground and they say, “That’s your job for now on, you play for the rest of us. You’re the designated kid. Make up stories,” so what’s not to like?
What’s not to like indeed.

Radiohead Responds to Download Stats: Says They’re False »
Radiohead’s response to industry speculation on the success of the In Rainbows distribution model:
In response to purely speculative figures announced in the press regarding the number of downloads and the price paid for the album, the group’s representatives would like to remind people that… it is impossible for outside organisations to have accurate figures on sales.
However, they can confirm that the figures quoted by the company comScore Inc. are wholly inaccurate and in no way reflect definitive market intelligence or, indeed, the true success of the project.
I’m still interested in the actual success of this project and hope Radiohead releases official statistics at some point.

For Radiohead Fans, Does “Free” + “Download” = “Freeload”? »
I was wondering about this earlier and now the official not so official statistics are out. In a nutshell, 2 out of 5 people who downloaded In Rainbows paid an average of $6.
Edward Hunter:
It is important to note that Radiohead has single-handedly accomplished a milestone that the recording industry has failed to achieve – they’ve eliminated much of the profit attrition related to piracy or illegal copying.

iTunes Skipping in Leopard
Since upgrading to Leopard, my iTunes has been randomly skipping and distorting music. A couple others have reported the same problem. Anyone else experiencing this?
